Change through Meditation
by Hornsby Baptist Church on October 29th, 2020
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night (Psalm 1:2).Meditation means "to think deeply and continuously about something." For a Christian, this means remaining in the presence of God and pondering each truth He reveals about Himself until it becomes real and personal in your life. This takes time. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said that certain peopl... Read More

God's Complete Protection
by Hornsby Baptist Church on October 22nd, 2020
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled (John 17:12).Nothing that Satan can do to you should cause you to fear (2 Timothy 1: 7). Jesus chose the twelve disciples the Father had given Him and then jealously guarded them from the evil one. Jesus sent ... Read More

God Keeps His Promises
by Hornsby Baptist Church on September 29th, 2020
We are often taught the story of Abraham and Sarah bearing a son when they were 100 and 90 years old. It was a great miracle but their were even greater miracles to come. Genesis 23:1 tells us that Sarah died when she was 127 years old. Abraham would have been 137. He loved Sarah dearly and mourned her passing. We are not sure how long he mourned, but lets guess 3 years. He would then have b... Read More

Dear Fear
by Hornsby Baptist Church on September 10th, 2020
Dear Fear,I only refer to you as “dear” because of our long‑term, intimate relationship, and certainly not because you are dear to me in any way. In fact, you have been a tormenting influence from start to finish. You have told me lies and prevented me from doing the things I wanted to do and should have done. You are indeed a miserable, wretched companion and one that I no longer am willing to be ... Read More

Faith in Times of Fear
by Hornsby Baptist Church on September 8th, 2020
Today’s world has many things to be fearful of. Death, sickness, violence, catastrophes, uncertain times (how often have you heard this phrase lately?), and many more. In Moses’ time, there were some of the same fears. When Moses was called by God, he was afraid to take on a leadership role (Exodus 3:11, Exodus 4:1). Moses ultimately had faith in God and God had Moses lead His people out of Egy... Read More

Your Word is Your Bond
by Hornsby Baptist Church on August 18th, 2020
1 John, Chapter 2, Verses 4-6He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. From a young age, my parents always stressed that if you make a promise then you ... Read More

Less is More
by Hornsby Baptist Church on August 11th, 2020
Gospel of Mark, Chapter 4, Verses 30-32And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air ... 7 Steps to Guard Your Heart
by Hornsby Baptist Church on July 30th, 2020
Romans 12: 1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Paula and I had the privilege of raising two wonderful sons. Throughout their growing up years, I tried to instill in them that what they put in their mind would corrupt their heart if they were not careful. In other word... Read More

Perseverance in the Face of Sin
by Hornsby Baptist Church on July 28th, 2020
James 1:12-15Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when... Read More

Legacy
by Hornsby Baptist Church on July 9th, 2020
In 2 Kings 20:1-6 we learn that Israelite King Hezekiah became mortally sick and asked God to grant him more time to live. God granted him fifteen more years. In those years Hezekiah fathered a child named Manasseh. Be careful what you pray for. Manasseh is known as the most wicked king in the Old Testament (21:11). He worshiped many pagan gods, practiced witchcraft, and even sacrificed his ow... Read More

“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).We live in a world where chaos abounds and we want to feel secure when things are uncertain all around us .With the knowledge of this blessed truth we can be calm in times of trouble. We understand and have experienced a lot of storms in our area the last couple of years. It seems like almost every few weeks a tornado comes near our area and causes... Read More

Bear the Name Christian
by Hornsby Baptist Church on June 16th, 2020
If you suffer as a Christian do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name (1 Peter 4:16).Peter is offering hope and encouragement to suffering and persecuted Christians. Many of the early Christians were experiencing physical persecution as well as being socially ostracized. I am sure many of them wanted to give up but Peter encourages them to remain steadfast and loyal to Christ. ... Read More

John 11:28-37When she had said this, she went away and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, "The Teacher is here and is calling for you." And when she heard it, she *got up quickly and was coming to Him. Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met Him. Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and consoling her, when they saw that Mary got up... Read More

Scared but Faithful
by Matthew Emerson on June 4th, 2020
My favorite person in the Bible is Joseph. He suffered through so many trials and never gave in to the hurt. He never turned away from God. In Genesis 37:23-28, his brothers threw him in a pit. They later sold him to Ishmaelite traders. In Genesis 39:20-21 he was falsely accused and thrown in to prison. In Genesis 40:14-15 he asked the cupbearer to tell Pharaoh about his circumstance. The man fo... Read More
