Faith in Times of Fear
Today’s world has many things to be fearful of. Death, sickness, violence, catastrophes, uncertain times (how often have you heard this phrase lately?), and many more.
In Moses’ time, there were some of the same fears. When Moses was called by God, he was afraid to take on a leadership role (Exodus 3:11, Exodus 4:1). Moses ultimately had faith in God and God had Moses lead His people out of Egypt; Moses witnessed the power of God through the plagues; he experienced the Passover; he saw God rescue the people through the parting of the Red Sea; He was there when God provided manna, quail, and water in the desert.
God tells us to not be afraid. He has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11). The Spirit of fear is not from God. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7).
Verses to combat fear:
Don’t worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have. And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds (Philippians 4:6-7).
We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. These are the people God chose, because that was His plan (Romans 8:28).
Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way (Proverbs 3:5-6).
But I trust in you, Lord; I say, You are my God (Psalms 31:14).
We can be encouraged as we look back on how God was with Moses and the Israelites. He is the same God who is over all creation in the year 2020 and for eternity!
Have a Blessed day!
