God Keeps His Promises
We are often taught the story of Abraham and Sarah bearing a son when they were 100 and 90 years old. It was a great miracle but their were even greater miracles to come. Genesis 23:1 tells us that Sarah died when she was 127 years old. Abraham would have been 137. He loved Sarah dearly and mourned her passing. We are not sure how long he mourned, but lets guess 3 years. He would then have been 140.
Genesis 25:1 explains that Abraham married again. Keturah was the name of his new wife. Not only were they married but also had a son name Zimran. Can you believe it. At 140+ years Ambrah has another son. There were more. Ketruah also bore him Joksha, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Six sons. By the birth of his last child Abraham would have been 150. That number makes having a baby at 100 look kinda lame.
We serve a miraculous God. He promised Abraham to b the father of so many descendants that they would be uncountable. The Lord never said that Sarah would be the mother of them all. The Scritpures tell us the Abraham’s first son, Ishmaels was born to Haggar. This son too would be the father of many desendenats. Sara was blessed to be the mother of God’s chosen path for redemption through her son Isaac. Jesus would be born from the line of Sarah.
All total Abraham had descendants of from eight sons. Indeed his offspring are as many as the stars in the sky. God made a promise and keep this promise in a way that was beyond the imagination of Abraham.
Our imaginations will never full understand the joy of salvation until we see with our eyes the blessing of heaven. Trust God to deliver the promises of His Word.
