Don’t Pray Away-Day 4

Key Takeaway: Sometimes God delivers us from our problems; sometimes God delivers us through our problems.

1 “As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.””
‭‭John‬ ‭9:1-5‬ ‭NASB

1. Read John 9:1-5 How did Jesus “set the record straight” about why the man in this story had been born blind?

2. What is the difference between praying away and praying through? Which types of these prayers to you tend to pray?

3. What is the situation in your life where you saw God change you through it rather than simply make the problem go away?

There is a big difference between praying away and praying through. We are often so anxious to get out of difficult, painful, or challenging situations that we fail to grow through them. Our shortsighted prayers short-circuit God’s perfect plans. The primary purpose of prayer is not to change circumstances but to change us  and glorify God in every situation.
Reflect on a prayer that seems unanswered. Honestly share with God your fears and concerns. Pray for endurance to pray through this season and ask God to show you how he wants you to grow.
