HOW DO YOU SET YOUR HEART ON FIRE FOR GOD?
In order to set to keep the flame burning bright for Jesus, you must fix your eyes on the things above and be filled by the Holy Spirit. Our hearts were made to be alive and on fire for God. We are meant to passionately pursue Him with all of our hearts, minds, and souls. The Holy Spirit within you will change you from the inside out so that your heart will feel like it is going to burst open in excitement. He will help us place what is true in our hearts so that they might be ablaze towards God.
When Christ becomes the center of your life, your heart and soul will be satisfied and you will never want anything less. Nothing else compares to the love of Jesus.
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands (2 Timothy 1:6).
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR FAITH BURNING BRIGHT
How exactly do you keep the flame of Jesus burning bright in your life? How do you keep from becoming a "lukewarm" Christian? The answer is quite simple. Always make Jesus the priority.
Just like in a marriage, the flame often goes out because they simply stopped prioritizing their relationship.
This is something you will have to intentionally work at. We can’t let life get in the way of us seeking and pursuing God. We must gather the necessary fuel for the fire. It must never go out. We must keep it burning bright. This sounds more laborious than it is. These four ways to keep your faith burning bright are simple things you can incorporate into your daily or weekly routine.
PRAY DAILY
To keep your faith burning bright, start with the basics – prayer. Regular communication with Him will help keep the passion for Him burning. God is seeking communion and fellowship with us, but we must respond. Only God can open up the human heart to know Him. If we are on fire for God, we will develop the intimate relationship He desires with us. Being in God's continual presence will help stir a fire.
Fully surrender your heart and mind to God. Ask God to show you how you can seek Him in all that you do. Ask Him to fill your heart with a desire and hunger for more of Him. God is a consuming fire, let your heart be set ablaze by being in prayer with Him.
MEDITATE ON GOD'S WORD
In order for you to keep your heart on fire for God, you must meditate on God's Word. There you will discover more about who He is and His love and grace for His children. You have to meditate on it. The Word must become alive in you. Let God's Word saturate your mind and heart. Get to know Him better so you can learn more about how He is working in your current circumstances. To better know Him is to love Him more and to love Him more you must learn about Him in the Bible.
In Luke 24:32, the two men had their hearts ablaze by the Word of God. They didn't waste even a minute to tell the other disciples that Jesus had been resurrected! He had brought the truth of the gospel to the front and center of their lives. They had heard the Word of the Lord and were then able to do the work of the Lord. If you are going to feel the same fire for God, you need to put Jesus at the front and center of your life by meditating on God’s Word daily.
But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither; whatever they do prospers (Psalm 1:2-3).
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ (Romans 10:17).
SERVE OTHERS
Whenever I serve others, I always get a joyful feeling inside. I have been on countless mission trips where I come back with a heart fully on fire for God. It is like fresh water is poured on me and I am refreshed. I get empowered and fired up to continually show other people who Christ is. When our hearts are set on Jesus, we won't be able to keep ourselves from serving others and sharing the Good News of the Gospel.
Be the hands and feet of Jesus to set your heart on fire for God. When you follow Christ’s example and serve other people, you will see God’s love in action and it will stir your heart closer to God’s.
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord (Romans 12:11).
FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER BELIEVERS
Surround yourself and fellowship with other believers. We were made for community and fellowship which is why it is so important to our faith walk. I attend a weekly Community Group through my church and always leave feeling fired up for Jesus.
Our experiences and stories can help fuel joy for the Lord in others. All you have to do is find a group of believers who can help keep you in the Word and to keep you on fire for God. In turn, you can also help spark a fire in other people for the Lord. Through accountability, encouragement, and discipleship, you will be sure to remain on fire for God.
SHARE THE GOOD NEWS
We are called to share the Good News of Jesus with non-believers. It isn’t enough to simply join the family – we are supposed to keep bringing in new members!
When we witness to others we often do it by way of sharing a personal testimony or maybe a testimony of someone else that we got to see playout. Don’t you get excited when sharing these stories? Doesn’t it get your blood pumping?
One of the best ways to get your heart pumping again with excitement for Jesus is to simply tell others how amazing He is and how you’ve literally observed his amazing Grace!
REKINDLE YOUR FAITH TO BURN FOR JESUS!
Rekindling your faith means putting off your old self and taking up your new identity. You must focus on being Christ-centered and displacing your self-centeredness. Then and only then can Jesus fill your heart and set it on fire to do what He has called you to do.
Be intentional about setting your heart and mind on the things above. Remember the joy of being in the presence of the Lord. You've tasted and seen that God is good. You've felt His presence. Now live on fire for God.
Have you placed your faith and hope in the finished work of Jesus Christ? If not, I would invite you to reach out so we can share more about how to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11).
If we want to sustain the hope that is made available through Jesus Christ, we must keep our hearts burning inside us.
