Serving Christ: Sharing the Wealth

The last few days I have spent time planning ministry events for the summer.  I look forward to VBS, YEP, and the 4th of July.  We use these special times to grow as servants of God and to reach others who do not have a real relationship of grace with Jesus.  Event ministries are great for kingdom growth but they also pose a trap for the church.  Activities can never take the place of one on one discipleship.  I can get so wrapped up in planning a program that I forget our plan is all about people.

Jesus gave us the pattern for making disciples.  He invested in twelve men who would go on to share the glory of God with others.  Paul challenged Timothy with this same mission.  The apostle was coming to the end of his earthly work.  He was deeply concerned that the gospel would be shared with another generation.  Paul called Timothy to make a personal investment to others.  "You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2:2)

Discipling is the process of allowing God to use us to be part of helping another disciple to grow.  It means we are to involve ourselves to the people around us for the cause of Christ.  Nothing can take the place of sharing our faith with others who are growing in the Faith.

God has given you a great blessing of mercy, hope, and peace.  Share the wealth of salvation with others this week.  Talk about what you have learned.  Share your struggles and victories.  Get personal with purpose of making disciples.
