Understanding the Message of Christ: Sin

My grandmother gave me a beautiful marble table after Mrs. Kim and I married.  It was around four feet in diameter with a solid cherry stand.  This table was in her home all my life.  I knew it was valuable but there was also a deeper worth to me because it belong to her. Fast-forward 10 years to life with kids.  During a birthday party, Robert Connor decided that the table would be a good sitting place.  The crack appeared immediately as he helped himself upon the marble.  The table was destroyed.

When mankind sinned the perfect harmony with God was broken.  Sin resulted in spiritual death which brought a curse upon our relationship with God, ourselves, others, and all creation.  The access to God was destroyed.

The basic idea of sin is to miss the mark.  Man was created in the image of God.  That image is our standard.  Sin means we have fallen short of living up to the standard of God's glory.  For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Sin in general, and particular sins in our individual lives, takes the place of God.  We hold on to them even though in our hearts we know they can never bring eternal peace and joy. I held on to that broken table for a few years.  It was worthless but it was hard to let go of something that had been apart of my life for so long.

The message of Christ begins with God's glory and the awareness of our broken sin.  Have a time of confession where God can search your heart and help you discover ways you are missing the mark of His glory.
