The Beatitudes-Day 7

Day 7:

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. - Matthew 5:5

Cultivating meekness

Cultivating meekness is essential to Christian character, reflecting strength under control and a heart surrendered to God’s will. Meekness is often misunderstood as a weakness but involves great inner strength, humility, and restraint. Jesus highlighted the value of meekness in the Beatitudes, saying, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” - Matthew 5:5. Meekness involves submitting our power, rights, and desires to God, trusting that He will work for our good.

To cultivate meekness, we must first embrace humility. This begins by recognizing our dependence on God and accepting that we do not need to assert our will or defend our pride. Meekness allows us to respond to challenges, criticism, or offense gracefully rather than with anger or aggression. It is a conscious choice to restrain our ego and emotions, aligning our responses with the character of Christ.

Meekness also requires patience. It involves waiting on God’s timing and trusting His plan, even when circumstances seem unfair or burdensome. As we grow in meekness, we reflect Jesus, who described Himself as “gentle and humble in heart.” - Matthew 11:29. Cultivating meekness transforms our relationships and strengthens our witness, demonstrating the peace and strength of living under God’s rule.

Prayer focus:

Ask God to help you have the patience to practice meekness.
